*UPDATE* Our Summer School workshops are now completely FREE and open to young people aged 12 - 16.
The Bernie Grant Arts Centre Summer School is back! Are you aged 12 – 16 and living in Tottenham? Are you interested in hip hop, dance and drama? This is one of three FREE workshops on offer, run by highly skilled artists, during the summer holidays. We’re offering you the opportunity to get creative and delve a little deeper into your interests or perhaps a chance to develop a new passion.
About the Dance and Drama Workshops
Over the week, you’ll get to explore the history of hip hop and how this underground movement transitioned into the mainstream. You’ll get the chance to explore different dance styles, techniques, choreography and freestyle. You’ll learn drama skills, improvisation techniques and the best bit – you’ll get to create your own pieces to perform with the group.
What to Bring
To get the most out of the workshops please bring comfy clothes that you can move around in and of course comfy trainers. It’ll be thirsty work so it’s a good idea to bring a bottle of water and a packed lunch. Most importantly bring loads of enthusiasm and energy!
About the Class Leaders: Steppaz
Led by Abena Noel and Jasmine Hylton, Steppaz is Bernie Grant Arts Centre’s very own resident Street Dance Company running regular classes throughout the year. Founded in 2013 the company specialises in creating inspirational and innovative programs for children and young people. Most recently the company collaborated with LIFT, Empire Sounds and internationally celebrated choreographer Dan Canham on SESSION. Featuring young people from across Haringey SESSION played to sell-out crowds at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre.
