Haringey Literature Live presents WORKSHOP WEDNESDAYS at KARAMEL! Friendly, small group workshops in a vibrant cafe setting!
Rebecca Swirsky returns with a new fiction workshop series: Magic Realism - from Kafka to Morrison
From Franz Kafka to Salman Rushdie, from Isabelle Allende and Jorge Louis Borges to Tony Morrison and Laura Esquivel, magical realism has a history of superlative writers. We will explore this explosive literary mode, testing the notion that magical realism is characterised by two conflicting perspectives, one based on an apparently ‘rational’ view of reality and the other on an acceptance of the supernatural as prosaic reality. To this rich literary canon, we’ll be weekly adding our own pieces creating fiction which navigates the slippery divide between the real and the fantastic.
“Rebecca was a marvellous teacher. She was extremely positive and encouraging when it came to sharing/commenting on my writing.” Wendy, workshop student
Workshops run for 3 consecutive Wednesday: 8th, 15th, 22nd Oct. 1.30-4pm. Total cost for the three sessions is £45, which includes refreshments from the cafe in a well-earned tea break each week.
Email Kate@collage-arts.org to book your place. Full programme of workshops and other activities is on our website.
