There has been a recall of a number of dry cat food brands due to a potential link to hundreds of cases of feline pancytopenia, a blood disorder whereby the cat's body is prevented from producing new blood cells which can be fatal.

The affected brands are Applaws, AVA (Pets at Home), and Sainsbury's Hypoallergenic. Wilko are also doing a voluntary recall of their own brand dry cat food which is made at the same location.

The recall only applies to dry cat food from these brands made in the UK with the factory code GB218E5009. If you have bought any of the above products you should stop feeding them to your cat immediately.

If you have bought an AVA product contact www.petsathome.com and fill out the contact form on the help page or livechat.

If you have bought an Applaws product contact www.applaws.com/uk/contact-us.

If you have bought a Sainsbury’s product contact www.sainsburys.co.uk/help or their Customer Careline on 0800 636262.

I've attached images of all recalled dry cay food for ease of identifying affected brands (other than Sainsbury's who only produce two different types of hypoallergenic and are easy to recognise).

If you believe you have been feeding any of the above brands and your cat seems unwell, or even just "off", please speak to your vet. Early signs of pancytopenia include lethargy and going off food and early treatment can be vital.

We very sadly lost our old boy this week and would like his unused food to go to a good home.

There is a nearly full large bag of Purina One Senior dry food (suitable for cats 11+, not young cats!) and cans of Gourmet paté, also for seniors 7+). If your cat would like these please get in touch. The dry food has only just been opened and is nearly full.

The last time I heard a mouse, in a previous flat, I borrowed a cat for five minutes, and never heard from the mouse again. So given last night's visitation, can anyone lend us a cat briefly? We're on the gardens, can compensate in tuna and strokes.

They must be neutered by 5 months old and need to be initially kept indoors only until they have been neutered, microchipped and big enough to then have catflap access to back garden.
Can anyone help? We booked our cats in to an Essex cattery for 5 days over Christmas ages ago and they've just called to say they're not going to open on Christmas eve after all, which is the only day I could have dropped them off. All the decent local catteries are full and our normal cat sitting lady isn't doing visits over Christmas.

Can anyone recommend someone local who might be available? I have two elderly cats and one adorable but needy kitten so really need to find someone who is either a vet nurse or really experienced (and who comes with references) or I'm going to have to cancel my Christmas plans entirely :-( Can you help? I'm based in N15, off St Ann's Road.
