Krankbrothers submitted an appeal to the Magistrates Court. I commented that "This throws up an interesting situation for the Council. Presumably the Council will have to support the decision of the Licensing Sub-Committee in court, yet as we all know the Council as park landlord encourage the staging of these events so it might not be completely supportive of the decision.”

Well, the Council didn’t uphold the decision of the Licensing Sub-Committee.

The matter didn’t even get as far as the court. The Council just overturned the decision and instead allowed the event to take place on the additional Friday from 16:30 to 21:30 and to use a single stage only. It is said that these measures address the Licensing Sub-Committee concerns. Text of email from Council attached.

However the Licensing Sub-Committee in making the original decision were quite clear that "In the Committee’s view there were no appropriate conditions that it could impose that would mitigate the nuisance impact on residents of having two 3 day weekend events as opposed to one 3 day weekend of event and one 2 day weekend event, as currently licensed.” (Residents letter - 28 February).

This situation just illustrates how ridiculous it is that Haringey Council, as park landlord in receipt of income from events, is also the Licensing Authority which is meant to regulate licensable activities.

Hi everyone

Just wanted to offer a word of warning, after a recent (expensive) mistake...

We had a small bedside table that was in perfect condition and was no longer needed. I did what I've always done with small household items and furniture having lived in London for 15 years - placed it just outside my gate with a sign attached saying "free to a good home." A few weeks later, a penalty notice arrived for £400 for fly-tipping, and the threat of a £20,000 fine if I didn't pay on time.

I emailed the enforcement team, explaining this was a genuine mistake on my part and not an attempt to dispose of furniture illegally (would have been a terrible plan if so, given I was so easily traceable with the item being directly outside my property.) It was a very small piece of furniture that wasn't blocking the public pathway. And, more importantly, I'm not a fly-tipper - I recently had our kitchen renovated and paid hundreds to have the waste disposed of properly, and regularly hire cars to take bulky furniture or waste to the N22 recycling centre. The response was that the fine was issued correctly and I owed the council £400. Pretty annoying when genuine fly-tipping is a chronic issue on the ladder... case and point the soiled mattress at the end of my road two weeks ago, and the dismantled bed in the passage last week, but there we go... my wallet is now £400 lighter for the mistake. I suspect the owners of the mattress and bed aren't worse off but who knows...

But this is really just to say if you have furniture in good knick you want to give away, keep it inside your front garden gate. I've seen people nearby doing the same thing as me - not with rubbish but with clearly nice bits and bobs they want to offer up passers by - and would hate for anyone else to end up in my position!

I need them to add some discounts to my account, but they've not replied to my emails in over a year. I am trying to avoid ringing them as I find their phoneline inaccessible.

Any hints? I will be owed quite a bit of backpay as the discount should have been applied over a year ago.

It would be nice if Haringey were less incompetent over things like this.

I have received a SMS today from Haringey Council, despite my never giving them consent to use my number for this purpose.

It also seems I can't block future contact from that account.

Has anyone got any experience with this, specifically: is there any kind of opt-out? and can I get my number removed from LBH's database?

Over £300m insourced after Islington's Fairness Commission - could that happen here?tag:harringayonline.com,2019-05-29:844301:Topic:11711852019-05-29T15:08:39.699ZChris Setzhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/ChrisSetz

According to this syrupy Grauniad puff, insourcing is returning and Islington's Fairness Commission led to >£300m of it there. Anyone remember the 1980's term for Council in-house services - the DLO (Direct Labour Organisation)?

Were more insourcing in Haringey to happen here as a result of our Fairness Commission, could there first be a benchmark established as to how much cash our Council is losing by not insourcing today?

Then we could maybe more objectively compare £ for £ whether new in-house services saved money and gave people better, healthier jobs at which they were more productive and took less sick leave from.

It might lead to less automatic 'hating' on the council as being 'useless' etc. Hard to measure objectively, but maybe it would be step towards a more cohesive community

One where the Council is able to more easily demonstrate is actually does help orchestrate community resources effectively, so that local people are more motivated to get involved steering it to best advantage?
