I have ordered new wheelie bins for over a month now!! Every time I call they promise another date of delivery. This passes and I see no bins. I call again, same story. We are accumulating waste bags, that are not collected because they are not in a bin.

I have also tried to contact the manager. She is incidentally never available when I call (either not in or in meetings). They promise me on the phone that she will call me back when she is free. But she doesn't - it's been a week…

Am I the only one that has these kind of problems with Veolia? What does it take to convince them what we all pay them to do? Is there a way for the council to take action? Because they don't seem to be delivering what they promised! - I don't have access to the contract, but I'm sure it's violated.

Yesterday they took the compost and garden waste, but did not empty the green bin, nor those of my neighbours. Have called Veolia today and they say it will be done within the next day or so, but not really good enough and no explanation or apology- also I could not request that they empty other peoples' bins so we each have to put in a separate call.

Anyone know what's going on with recycling collections of late...

Are they weekly or fortnightly... I'm on Falkland Rd and last week mine was taken on at around 6:30pm on a Tuesday and this week there seems to have been none at all!

Haringey council and Veolia representatives seem to be following the bin and recycling lorries to check the collection today .

Basically my rubbish bin was too full to fit all my waste. There were two bags of polystyrene packaging that can't be recycled that I'd left next to my bin. The bin men didn't take them.

She said I needed to take the to the tip, or put it in my bin now it's empty. I pointed out that if I did that then then bin wont be collected for another two weeks and there won't be room for two weeks worth of rubbish. I have two small children in nappies and the bin is disgusting after two weeks anyway.

If my rubbish isn't being collected I asked what I paid my council tax for? She said that lots of people leave rubbish in their gardens and the bin men can't take it all. But the council will pursue people that don't use their bins properly.

I argued that surely the have to prove first who is leaving the rubbish first and how do they do that if they're flats or multiple occupancy?

The Veolia representative seemed to be at odds with the Haringey council representative. He was nodding in agreement with me, when I said two weekly collection isn't enough and there is rubbish everywhere spilling out of bins.

She told me to contact the council if I'm not happy and we left it at that. She came back a few minutes later and said she was recording it as a failed collection and the bin men should have taken it.

This situation is completely farcical!! Should I put a note out every week on my bagged up rubbish asking the bin men to take it?

But seriously, if the two weekly collection is here to stay and if it's in the front garden and it looks like rubbish then why not take it, what's the problem?

So...the monster recycling bins have arrived in the east of the borough (in my part of it, at least- not sure if they did the whole section in one hit?)

Unsurprisingly, I came home from work yesterday evening to find several sets of neighbours boggling over how we're going to fit them all in, commenting on how coming home felt like 'walking through a corridor' and in another case, bargaining over sharing one in a bid to steal back some garden space.

I don't think I've ever seen my street unite with such neighbourly spirit before :D

Seriously though, it's not helped the streetscape one bit and I'm disappointed that flats with shared gardens have been treated as houses to create these bin parks. I'm lucky in having enough space to deal with two additional bins so I probably won't be applying for smaller ones myself unless neighbours are keen to do so, but it'll be interesting to see how many others send them back!

How are others in the east of the 'hood finding the new additions?
