Hi all!

I dropped a note to Veolia who have very efficiently just replied with a corrected pdf version of the calendar along with a promise to deliver correct printed versions. (Thank you, Gabrielle).

I'm fine with printing it myself and, in case anyone else who has their collections on Wednesday (Week A) would also find the calendar helpful, I've attached it to this post. (The ones I found online only go as far as March).

Haringey's line on Christmas tree disposal recycling this year, as posted in Haringey People Extra and on the website is below.

Has anyone tried leaving their Christamas tree out in chunks for collection this year? Did it get taken by the Veolia men?
I was stood at the bus stop on GL outside Iceland at around 17:50 yesterday and saw something that just beggars belief.

A Veolia van rock up to pick up waste bags left on the street in purple bags- as they normally do at this time of day. My attention was caught by the sound of a bag not being thrown fully into the back of the caged van, and it sounded and looked as I turned like it, or at least its contents, were spilling onto the floor and splatting everywhere.

I took a few photos from a distance as I had a feeling that the rubbish I saw and heard falling would be left as the half dozen or so other bags were picked up and put into the caged back of the van. I must be psychic or something, but of course it was left.

The van drove off as I walked towards the mess and some kindly sole stepped into the road to use his foot to sweep some of the much into the gutter and out of the road- there was not much he or I could do with the massive bag of rice and filth covered rubbish with his hands to be fair, and so it sat there for the rats/dogs/foxes and cars to mush into the road and residents to walk through or round! I expect it will be on that path and road for over 12 hours until the poor sod who has to sweep the streets arrives to clear it up.

WTF?

Surely people on street cleaning operations have a dustpan and brush, or shovel and broom, and clear up after themselves? Or, is that asking just a little too much?

I will report this to Veolia and let you know what they say but this really takes the biscuit!

In early April Veolia never returned my bin to the front courtyard after emptying it and someone has evidently nicked off with it. My flatmate and I both contacted Haringey Council to ask for a replacement bin and they've dithered and dathered since, first claiming that we would have to pay £30 to replace it, and then agreeing that if Veolia were at fault then the charge would be waived. They sent someone out to 'investigate' who closed his investigation because he was sent to check for a missing recycling, not refuse, bin. They then said they would send another investigator out, but never did and have no record of that conversation when we rang to follow up. They have again suggested that they will send out someone to investigate, but I don't have high hopes.

My flatmate is about ready to just pay the £30 to get this over and done with, but I don't think that's fair.

I just want a replacement bin supplied free of charge, as the council confirmed I am entitled to.

Any tips on who to contact to get this sorted promptly? We have one bin between two flats and it's getting very full each week!
Veoliarse 2.0tag:harringayonline.com,2018-05-11:844301:Topic:10816432018-05-11T09:43:24.676ZProtheroe O'Sheahttps://harringayonline.com/profile/TunbridgeWells

I found these FAQs on the Veolia website (linked from the Haringey website) for the new service

https://www.veolia.co.uk/haringey/services-facilities/services-facilities/recycling-collection/garden-waste-faqs

My reading of it is -

The contract is annual and with a specific address. If at the end of the contract you don't renew, any bags you put out, if you have any left, won't be collected. Also if you go for the bin option it won't be taken away if you choose not to renew. It's yours to deal with.

Sharing with neighbours is possible but the collection will only be from the address of the person who took out the contract. If you decide on a bag sharing arrangement with your neighbours they will have to put the bags on your property for collection. If someone nicks your garden waste bin it will be of no use to them as it will only be collected from the address of the contract holder.

Veolia will only deal with the contract holder so if your neighbour's bags aren't picked up from your property as they should be it's up to you as the contract holder to sort it out, not them.
