Volunteers needed to help with five-a-side cup for kids aged 14 - 18

Have you got couple of hours to spare on Saturday 23rd August?

The postcode rivalry will be shaken up by a unique football tournament taking place in Haringey next week. The tournament is organised by the Group’s young people, Haringey Young People Empowered, HYPE and they are in need of your support to make sure the event runs as smoothly as possible.

HYPE are hosting a football tournament for young people in Haringey on Saturday 23 August 2008 from 10am to 4pm at the New River Sports Centre, White Hart Lane and we need volunteers to make it work.

Breaking down barriers...

The aim of the tournament is to bring together young people from different cultures and different parts of the borough to have fun, co-operate and compete together. HYPE wants to break down young people's negative preconceptions of the authorities, encourage them to lead a healthier lifestyle and to get involved with their communities. There will be anti-knife and gun crime messages and literature on the day and we have the support of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

How you can help...

To make it work, we need volunteers to referee the games, handle co-ordination of the pitches, support the individual teams and help with the catering and organisation. You'll get breaks plus lunch and refreshments on the day.

If you'd like to come along and help out, have a look at the enclosed pack which has all the details of the volunteer roles. Please complete the attached form and return it to us by Monday 18th August 2008.

A mix of youth workers, PCSO officers, police officers, community workers and ordinary residents and members of the community would be ideal. And if you'd like to print out a few copies of the flyer and distribute them in a school or youth group that would be even better!

This tournament along with the planning stages will be filmed and edited into a documentary that highlights how young people can be a part of positive community relations and participate in civil society. Please help our young people to make the day a success by volunteering and asking your panel members and community police support officers to get involved.
