Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just wanted to make people aware of the very-welcome wider product range at grocery shop Dostlar at 425-427 Green Lanes

i've no connection with them whatsoever, but it's just really good to see one of those shops having a wider range of goods which caters for things like organic etc.

they've a good range of breads at the back, including artisan and some of the seeded batch varieties

they even do sausage rolls, a real rarity for this area...

also organic honey, milk and other products

apparently the shop's name is Turkish for 'friends' and the staff certainly live up to that

give them a try

which one's baldwin's?

anyway it's not that big a deal but i'm just glad they're trying - in particular the fresh bread really is good and for those of us on the south part of the ladder it's less of a walk than the local store

and btw if we've got to the point where we're snooty about which type of organic products people are buying then i think we've got too fussy haven't we?

Which ones Baldwins? Oh dear

its about 50 times the shop Dostlar is. To be quite honest Dostlar always looks filthy and unappealing to me.

so my reply got moderated but i'll say it again - that is a bad slur to direct against any business - clearly their many customers don't agree

and it has about 50 times the number of products Baldwi's has

i wonder what it is about theri respective names that makes a difference to you?

definitely not. like any food, there is good and not so good.

back to Baldwin's- an excellent butcher, one of the few who sell quail which are ideal slow cooked with mushrooms and tomatoes

And what you failed to mention is that dostlar is open 24/7 365 a year.

agrree it’s a great shop and thanks for the heads up on sausage rolls. I have know them for 20 years and we do remiss sometimes. Lovely people who look after my bike whilst I shop, and if I have forgotten my money let me pay later

Dostlar and other Turkish shops provide me with lots of stuff that keeps me sane now that I am ancient and have too many aches and pains to eat out frequently; I can buy the necessary to cook from recipes in the excellent Saqi publication Turkish Cookery which I edited with the help of top British and Turkish culinary writers and chefs in 2006 to raise money for children whose parents were killed in the last earthquake in Turkey there are also various articles on Turkish ettiquette, wine and less-known food.
I too shop in Baldwin's because their meat is always fresh and they sell quail!!
