Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Better preparation by senior police in Tottenham could have stopped the riots which erupted there and were copied across England, the BBC has been told.

A former senior policeman has criticised a "disgraceful" absence of leadership and strategy.

Community leaders say they warned local police about the risk of violence at a meeting, hours before it began.

The Metropolitan Police admits officers were "overwhelmed", but insists the threat they faced was unparalleled.

You do make me laugh Osbawn with your apologist views... and of course, Hitler built the Autobahn - so it wasn't all bad then was it..?

It sickens me heartily reading all this to-ing and fro-ing ... those who condemn the rioting are just as guilty as those who were at it.. It is society's problem and breakdown.. which means that everyone is guilty in their own little way for how they've been living over, let us say, the last thirty years!...

It saddens me on the other hand, because I know that in the end, the British system of everyone shafting everyone else will continue as before as if nothing had happened ... Cameron's friends will build a few new prisons.. bang up a few thousand more just to make Annette & John D happy... and we'll all continue to sing 'Rule Britannia' next proms night ...

@ Stephen....

First, I don't believe I have ever said it would make me happy to see people  banged up and it's presumptious of you to say so.

Second, I did reasonably well at school, I served in HM Forces, was employed for 42 years, married and brought up a family. I have never stolen so much as a paperclip and have never set fire to anything larger than a cigarette. I have no debts and my credit card balance is zero. In retirement, I teach English to immigrants and refugees.

I refuse to feel guilty about how I have "been living over, let us say, the last thirty years " and I suspect that there are millions like me.

You teach English!!! With a Scottish accent!!! Criminal!
I think it's time you had a holiday John :)
@John D

So what? There are also plenty of the others too!

I would have thought that someone with such 'a clean sheet' would be capable of thinking through the whole scenario of being brought up in a family, often with parent(s) not much older than a brother or sister could be. Without love and affection, not always something to eat on the table. A TV, blasting out day and night, all the things that every one should have and then observing how other better off members of society, including politicians, bankers trample over laws.. etc., etc.,

I agree it must be very difficult to feel guilty, if you subscribe to a form of society where the only way of creating wealth is through inflated property prices..The get rich quick- Thatcher disaster -  continued by Blair and paid for by devastated communities up and down the country. You youself said once, you noticed the difference when going back to the UK from abroad..

The way forward is to start creating 'real jobs' from which people are able earn enough to live decent lives from and which will give them a sense of 'worth' and 'belonging'. Providing them with unstigmatised cheap good housing and a good education.

Have you seen this? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14662748

Whilst preaching big society, the current government is against investing in the future.. It's amusing to read that the tories find that it would be a burden on employers .. This is the norm in Germany which certainly does a lot better economically than Britain.. where's the burden then?

No, I see no real intention from the British government to solve these problems..

Schlag mich, schlag mich..

BBC = Bobby Bashing Corporation

Ex-senior policeman David Gilbertson - EX being the operative word.

Ah! the wonders of hindsight.  I wonder how many pressos, including a BBC team,would not have been trapped for 4 days in that hotel in Tripoli had they had the benefit of hind sight before settling in there?
