Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Can anyone help? We are private homeowners (this is relevant!) and the downstairs flat next door is Homes For Haringey accommodation. Our deeds and theirs shows the boundary between the gardens is their responsibility.

The fence and wall separating our gardens is derelict and falling down. The wall part is in fact crumbling, making it dangerous. Three times now I've emailed Homes for Haringey's repair team to ask them to urgently sort it out, because the tenant won't engage. However, because we're not actually HfH tenants ourselves and are private owners, they won't respond and are just ignoring us. Apparently only tenants themselves can ask for repairs.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how we can proceed to get this fence replaced? It's really urgent - one more bad storm and it's a goner!

Send a solicitor's letter ?

We're hoping it won't come to that, but we will take that step if necessary.

ask your local councillor for help?

If its dangerous report it through the Haringey Council website directly. It will be logged and will have to be dealt with then. Make a copy of it... I think it gives you the option to receive a copy.... And if nothing happens forward to your ward councillor. If nothing happens then forward to the leader. From past experience this route eventually got a result. Good luck!

Out of interest if this was a private tenant and they didnt respond what would be the options or is it the case that they are not obliged to do anything?

Hi:

I live in a property managed by HfH and yes, they can be very frustrating to deal with, especially their repairs team.

Submit it to Customer Services (to get it into their system) and see what they say. If they don't reply, send it straight to their CEO and copy your local councillor in.

Good Luck!

Alfred
