Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi All,

Just wanted to keep everyone informed about a recent break and enter to our property between 19:30-19:50 on Halloween. After handing out candies to the children we decided to step out to grab a takeaway. When we returned I had noticed that our front sash window was wide open. They had used a crowbar to open the main sash window! Given the small window of time it appears that they were scoping the place out in advance and had seen us leave. The police were great, however the suspect used gloves (no prints!). Hope no one else was targeted, but do make sure to be extra cautious when leaving your home.

Did they take anything. A studio in our hmo got burgled at lunchtime tues.  lunchtime.

Did hey make off with anything? Are you close to Mattison Road?

My hmo neighbour got burgled as I said they took bank card and gained pin took £150. But nothing else he is caught on our cctv just waiting now for our landlady to get response from police

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Not a nice feeling. Not a nice end to a family evening out.

That's pretty brazen considering how many adults and children were out on the steeet around that time. I'm so sorry.

Fortunately they didn’t take anything. It appears that they just opened a drawer and left. We had left the television on on another room, so it may have prompted them to think someone was home.

That's tough Elisa, glad nothing of value was taken.

A few years ago a number of properties, mainly flats, were broken into on the Ladder. The guys breaking in basically looked for doors that were likely not to have had the mortice lock in use, and where residents relied on the Yale lock as someone left- as often may happen in flats.

They basically only needed to apply a little force and the Yale would spring and off they went into the flats. The bit relevant to what Elisa has flagged here is that they really wanted to be in and out very quick, and often grabbed what ever looked of value that they would have seen first and then they legged it. A few people suggested leaving an old, crap, unloved/useless laptop near the door or lying around to offer a possible burglar bait so they did not nick anything of any real value...

That’s a really good idea. Fortunately we keep all of our valuables secure. We had an incident a couple of months ago where someone rang the doorbell just to scope out the property.

Hi Elisa

Sorry to hear that, it's not nice. We had a bell ring attempted break in 3 weeks ago on Langham rd, 9.50 AM, broke a pane in front window to access door lock, but mortice lock pet them off breaking in completely.  We've now fitted an alarm, and new door.

I saw someone (who I see regularly up and down GL) on Mattison a month ago ringing a doorbell. I confronted him and he walked off spewing abuse in broken English. PM me and we can compare notes.

my daughter and son got burgled in harringay road recently two young guys were still in flat when daughter went in she went mad at them and chased them out of flat they got nothing

Wow, incredibly brave, well done her
