Can anyone recommend a good structural engineer?

Hi all

I urgently need some recommendation regarding a good local structural engineer. We are creating kitchen/dinner space and need someone to do calculations for steel beams which would then have to be submitted to building regs.

We are really pressed for time because we already have a team of builders working on the site. We had a structural engineer come round (recommended by our builder), but were disappointed as it took him a week to come back with an estimate for his fee which included 75% more items than we've asked for* (and was just about that much more expensive than we've anticipated!). It took him another week to re-do the estimate which still included twice the amount of drawings required. Basically, we lost patience and want someone who understands what we need and does not require a week to compose an email (i can only imagine how long it would have taken him to provide the drawings!).

Anyone has positive experience with local SEs? Please share, I will be forever grateful! :)

* And included random items like 'plans for downstairs WC' which - by the way - we already have!!
