True the cars are stationary, but the fact remains, roads become physical barriers separating the Gardens from the Ladder, Hornsey Wood from Hornsey Park, Harringay Park from Finsbury Park, the constant flow and congestion of traffic remains hostile to our health, our children's health, and is in many cases life threatening to those vulnerable to respiratory conditions.
We have dual carriageways on Duckets and Finsbury Park, which consider lane widths at our expense, the priority is car movements over residents, and dangerous and hostile to pedestrians who are commuting or wish to cross or access our parks.
add in to that the number of cyclists that come in with bumps scrapes and strains and it all adds up to a much less safe mode of transport than taking the bus and tube

That's not really true though unless you take a really simplistic view of things. The health benefits of cycling as a form of exercise far outweigh the very small risk of serious injury.

Hi Antoinette

If you could find a source that would be much appreciated.

I've tried to find more local stats - I found pedestrian fatalities in London 2007 - 2010, but again pedal bikes come far lower than buses (4 and 54)

I take your point that pedal cycle collisions are likely under-reported vs bus collisions - being hit by a bus is unlikely to be something a pedestrian walks away from.
By "seperated infra" I mean c…tag:harringayonline.com,2016-06-20:844301:Comment:8901112016-06-20T18:46:46.161ZTom Mellorhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/TomMellor

I don't think using an image is all too helpful. It definitely demonstrates that cars are very inefficient. However we also have to consider things like the distance between vehicles when they are moving, the lane widths required, stopping and starting, and so on.

LSquared....I was referring to the Whittington''s Accident and Emergency statistics which to me are far more relevant than the national statistics you quote..remember a large proportion of cycle collisions go unreported.... I'll try and find the stats online but my information comes from a consultant there... add in to that the number of cyclists that come in with bumps scrapes and strains and it all adds up to a much less safe mode of transport than taking the bus and tube

Do you have a link/reference for that? In all the official stats I have seen it's the other way round.

Here's the Road Casualties stats for 2014 - page 95 has the pedestrian casualties by vehicle type. Bikes 461, buses 1,022. (Cars 17,040)…
