Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello All!

I am a member of North London Creative Resistance - We are a collective formed at a BLM rally at Lordship Recreational Park. We aim to create social change through collaborative visual art.

Our first project is a community inspired mural on Downhills Park Cafe in Tottenham.

We are working alongside the owner, Neri and have permission from the council. All we need now are the funds!

Downhills Cafe is a much-loved community hub, bringing together Tottenham locals of all ages, cultures and walks of life. However, the building itself needs some love and attention.

We will be working with children and young people with the final design and the painting of the mural. We want to empower them by giving them creative ownership of their local spaces.

It will be a vibrant, educational, interactive piece for everybody in Tottenham to enjoy.

The Haringey community belongs to us!

We aim to raise £5000 for all the necessary supplies and maintenance of the mural. As well as the mural itself, we will be running creative workshops with the young community of Tottenham aiming to inspire and equip them with creative skills.

It would be hugely appreciated if you were able to donate, as well as share with your networks and on your social media platforms. We understand now is a very difficult time for everybody, so if you are not able to donate, sharing the link and spreading the word is more than enough!

Below is the Crowd funder link with a video we shot with the local community.

Thank you for reading and for your support!

All the best

Yes, our aim is to create a piece of art focusing on the communities of Tottenham. We want to put politics aside and create a positive art piece celebrating everybody of all ages, cultures and walks of life.

Could I suggest that the art work is sustainable and plant based. Downhills Park is a park and it would be lovely if the young people could learn how to use plants as art as in all great gardens rather than unecological degradable plastics that will need maintenance and that may attract vandalism. I’m quite happy to put some thought into this and meet with North London Creative Resistance members to explore some ideas for innovative plant art.

We would be more than happy to meet with you and discuss sustainable options for the mural! An excellent suggestion.

The mural will only go ahead if we raise the money for all of the supplies though, so please donate and share our crowdfunder! crowdfunder.co.uk/downhillsmural.

Once we reach our target and are certain the mural will be happening, we would love to have you on board and to explore these options!

Hi. I’d be really pleased to be involved. You can contact me by DM on Twitter  -@elizabethregina . Look forward to talking when you’re free.

It would help to know what the mural is going to be.

Some info from our our Crowdfunder page below.

"Our first project will be a mural on the Downhills Park Community Café; a vital meeting place for the wider Tottenham community that serves people from all walks of life. The mural will have interactive elements, a chalkboard, and multiple languages displayed; providing inter-generational appeal (and a distraction for kids while the adults chat!)

The local community will be involved every step of the process, from finalising designs to painting the cafe. We use the community circle that happens fortnightly at Lordship Recreational Ground to outreach.

Our vision for the mural is a piece of artwork that enhances the café and displays the true multi-cultural history of Tottenham – by the people, for the people!"

I am in the process of putting together a first draft of a design soon to be uploaded.
