Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know why there are so many American-themed things in Finsbury Park? There's an American Garden, American football. and baseball, which seems to be protected by bye-laws. Perhaps a philanthropist in the past left some sort of legacy, or is it just coincidence?

They put a couple of dozen of them in as bedding plants. Unfortunately the next morning the little blighters had scarpered and all the pecan nuts were missing.

Sounds like you might be right!

I've just added a 1920s image of the American Gardens here.

I just came across the following:

The north-west side of the park, just above the cricket ground, called the "American part," has been devoted exclusively to American plants, which like all the rest of the trees and shrubs, among them some very fine specimens of Araucaria imbricata, are looking as healthy and luxuriant as if they had been growing there for years instead of only a few weeks.
