I read this book recently. With its theme of European settlers in the Mid-West, leaving behind beloved mother countries to struggle to survive against the fierceness of burning hot summers and deadly winters, as well as trying to fit in with a dominant culture, I found it a moving reminder of all that is left behind and all that is achieved by migrants.
