I dont’t post anonymously Alan. It’s not wrong to consider the motivations of someone making an assessment is it? As Spider-Man says, it contains quite emotive language and some sweeping statements.

Finsbury Park does have problems and I for one welcome these being highlighted and action being taken to address them. The report does that of course but also is a tad whinging and innacurate (The hazard posed by water courses flowing though the park!) it also makes assumptions with no…

Finsbury Park does have problems and I for one welcome these being highlighted and action being taken to address them. The report does that of course but also is a tad whinging and innacurate (The hazard posed by water courses flowing though the park!) it also makes assumptions with no evidence - like malfunctioning CCTV even thought the shopper then goes on to say that they have no way of knowing if this is true.

As far as I'm aware, nobody from Haringey challenged the professional skills, experience and fitness to make the judgements of those awarding the very welcome, celebrated and publicised Green Flags.

Perhaps the anonymous people posting on HoL would like to offer evidence to Haringey's Chief Executive to substantiate what appears to be an ad hominem critique.

Thanks, Hugh. The huge advantage of having timely and independent public reports is that Friends of parks groups and the general public could have gone and seen for themselves far earlier. Instead of having to wait for the Council's 'editorial' which - as we've now learned - blames the messenger.

As I recall when there was a Green Flag raised in - I think - Queens Wood, I heard about a public celebration with a speech (from the Mayor?), with an audience of several councillors, some…

Plus cakes with green icing and little flags.

If and when Haringey senior staff and politicians are happy to listen to criticism and act on it, Haringey residents may find the good news more persuasive.
That's a truly damning report…tag:harringayonline.com,2019-01-26:844301:Comment:11473332019-01-26T11:20:36.993ZHughhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/hjuk

That's a truly damning report of Finsbury.

I don't have an issue with the Council engaging in a dialogue the KBT about the ratings, but the tone of the Haringey response does sound very much more like a pretty clumsy attempt at reputation management than an indication of a willingness to set about making genuine improvements.

First Tip: Don't pick a fight with the umpire. Saying it's not fair and "You cannot be serious!" is not going to improve the borough's public image.

Second Tip: Keep Britain Tidy are acting as critical friends. Take the rough with the smooth; the awards with the critique. Haringey are very keen to boast about green flag status.
Second Tip: Keep Britain Tidy are acting as critical friends. Take the rough with the smooth; the awards with the critique. Haringey are very keen to boast about green flag status. So when standards are said to be dipping, thank the judges and work with them and with the Friends groups and the Park staff - to raise the standards with a funded action plan that's realistic. That's the grown-up response.

Third Tip: If reports are kept secret or their release is delayed, it starts to look like a cover-up, even if that's not the intention. Publish as soon as possible and get busy with action plan and actions.

Last Tip: Don't play 'our-expert-is-better-than-your-expert'. And never when the issue is the safety of children's play equipment in parks.

I won't even bother to offer a tip to Joe Ejiofor. His unfunny clowning at the Council meeting about losing Green Flags was a new low. Even for him.
I don’t think the issues that…tag:harringayonline.com,2019-01-25:844301:Comment:11475622019-01-25T16:57:25.634ZTina Shttps://harringayonline.com/profile/KristinaSubergSethi
