THE chronic problem of bin storage along the pavements of the Miltons continues, despite repeated representations to the Council by Highgate Councillors.

Even without fly-tipping, a problem at the Miltons, Haringey and indeed, much of London, is the fox population. This has been raised by at least one resident in the Miltons and I see them in my own street.

It's a problem that needs to be tackled on a London-wide level, as these characters are indifferent to Ward or Borough boundaries. Originally, they may have entered London from the countryside, by the land along the railway lines. A friend once saw a fox, well into the centre, at Farringdon Station.

While I understand your point Clive I don't think foxes are the problem but the way waste is stored. A decent bin with a lid means that foxes have no opportunity to scavenge. Lack of an easy food source means fewer foxes as they only hang around an area if there is something to eat. Treat the cause and we're on the way to dealing with the symptom.

On the issue of The Miltons, I think that street is a prime example of how a one size approach to waste collection doesn't work to the benefit of people living in the borough. On the Ladder there are houses that just don't have the space within the boundary of the property to store a wheelie bin, I walked by some just a few minutes ago on the way to get a newspaper. I think the fundamental problem with the waste offering from Haringey is that it has been designed to offer the easiest solution for the contractor rather than the best solution for residents.
