Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey has the second highest rate of homelessness of any local authority in the UK.

According to a new report from national homelessness charity Shelter (attached below), only the London Borough of Newham has a higher rate of homelessness than Haringey. This figure is based on the number of people estimated as living in temporary accommodation in the borough added to the number found to be sleeping rough at the last official count.

One in 29 Haringey residents do not have a permanent home, and over 9,200 people in the borough are estimated to be in temporary accommodation.

This news comes just weeks after national homeless network Combined Homelessness and Information Network announced another sharp increase in the number of people sleeping rough in London.

There's no time of year that it's pleasant to be homeless, but there appears to be more will to contribute to a solution around Christmas. If you feel you'd like to help this Christmas, take a look at The Londonist's piece on where you can volunteer
