Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Haringey want to extend ALL two-hour CPZs across the entire borough.

See this pdf on the Haringey Council website.

They have slipped this in quietly under the Muswell Hill and Fortis Green consultations.

Very underhand.

Nick - the whole point is that what they are proposing is NOT stated at all in the consultation so you and other residents are being denied the opportunity to comment on this.  When a couple of years ago they got rid of two hour permits they did the same thing.  You examined the document summarising the proposed increased charges and the two hour permit option had been removed.  Now it is the turn of the hourly permit.  I would like to think that the council are retaining the hourly permits but I am certain that they are not.  For elderly residents this will increase the cost of a visitor permit from 41p to £2 - a 387% increase, multipying the cost by a factor of almost 5!

Paul I’m not sure where your info is coming from but can assure you the council is not removing the hourly permits. Secondly yes there is an increase to the permits but pensioners and disabled are still getting a concession and they are not going to pay £2.00 as stated. Haringey have meetings where councillors decide and vote which is live online when they occur. Maybe you should join the meeting to hear exactly what is being proposed.you cannot talk or comment but at least you can hear and see. Finally if you are upset about changes why not do a petition and get people to sign and perhaps that way if people think changes are unfair and object the council may change their mind..or maybe campaign and get Labour out of having full control of Haringey!!

Hi Nick - Elizabeth Mackie has alerted me to a FAQ which states that they are not withdrawing the hourly permits which is very good news indeed BUT - why was the charge for this not enumerated together with all of the other charges?  Anyway good news for those who use hourly permits UNTIL they change the two hour zones to all day CPZs, then my comments still stand!

Why not enumerated? - I see now it's a consequence of the legal process where an original Order is amended by later changes in later Orders. And further amendments on earlier amendments and so on... I've read through a lot of these recently!

If there is no change to an item then, say, an unchanged charge (for one-hour vouchers, in this case) is not required to be reported. Only the changes are. This is not explicit in the documents. If just about every other charge is listed because it's changed, you'd expect the unchanged charges in the list too - not so. (Not helpful, either).

The FAQs noted by Paul Soper/Elizabeth Mackie were posted yesterday and are the first explicit reference to one-hour vouchers continuing to be available.

And I apologise to all (particularly Michael Anderson) for my starting this hare through my misunderstanding.
