Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay Traffic - your thoughts and ideas requested with link to online survey

Further to the traffic study I posted a day or two ago here is a link to our online version.

With the pressure of work on our IT team a few changes need to be made and will be made after the election but it is fully up an running for those who are happy to do it now.

These charges will be:-
• we won’t require an email address;
• we will add more comment boxes for people who want to expand on their answers; and
• when we ask about turning onto Green Lanes we’re asking specifically about the turning from Frobisher Rd

Here is the original post

"Your Harringay ward libdem team have been talking to hundreds of residents these past few months and one thing that keeps being raised is the disappointment of the Green Lanes Traffic survey that the council conducted last year. The solutions residents are looking for to reduce the traffic across the Harringay Ladder just aren't there and the solutions that are presented just aren't going to solve things. To make things worse, the study, which cost over £100,000, now seems to have been kicked into the long grass by the council.

We don't think this is good enough. Harringay residents have put up with unsustainable levels of traffic for years and we all want a solution that cuts the number of HGVs on our roads and makes our residential roads less desirable to through traffic but without impacting unfairly on other areas.

We want to get the conversation going again with our own traffic survey to see what residents want and invite ideas so we can continue to work with residents to build a workable solution.

Please do take the time to fill it in – together we can find the solutions to solve the traffic issue that blights so many of our residential roads."

We look forward to your responses.

That's more like it! Nice one.

So can we have a nice bit of competition with the Labour candidates over TRAFFIC?

It's better that it's online now but I'd agree with other comments that we've had enough surveys and studies to gain an understanding of this. There is plenty of data out there, it's action that is really needed.

It's easy to commit to more surveys, committing to some action would be more impressive.

Good to have this raised as an election issue!

I would be very interested in candidates views on what they will do.

For me this is the only election issue (after garden waste collection, obvs).

The current administration spent £200K on a transport study with objectives including reducing excessive traffic on the Ladder. Then decided to do precisely nothing to reduce excessive traffic on the Ladder.

There is only one way to actually reduce traffic in London. And that is to reduce the population of London. Anything else is just papering over the cracks.

We agree that any approach cannot be piecemeal, which is why over the years we kept pressing with local residents for a holistic traffic survey of the area. Unfortunately, when the Council got around to commissioning one, it turned out (in our opinion) not to be very good, which is why we’ve had a go ourselves. The reason for it is not to run a mini-referendum, but to get a conversation going so that we can draw on residents’ thoughts in order to work out some sensible improvements which we can then campaign for effectively, if we are elected.

The survey will allow us to see how the council's survey and proposals stack up with our findings on the ground allowing us as councillors (hopefully on being elected) to make informed decisions that meet with residents needs.

So please keep your observations coming and by all means make suggestions as to further questions that we might ask.

Would you like opinions from residents of the whole of the GLATs study area, or just the Ladder part of it?

Julie, we invite responses from all residents in the GLATs study area - everyone it affects, we want to hear from.

I'd actually suggest pulling it and doing it properly. As it currently looks rather amature and does not inspire any confidence.

I am presuming that Karen needs stuff like this to take to Haringey wide libdem meetings and show the strength of feeling over traffic issues here. I might be wrong.

It's not as if there isn't enough stuff already out there though. A survey with a few leading questions shouldn't make much of a difference.

Two days before the election ?

I hope you don't mind Karen but I'll wait to see if any LibDems are elected before spending time on it.

( I hope there are, by the way )
