It's Raining Cats and Kittens - The Mayhew

Kitten season is at its peak and The Mayhew Animal Home (like all rescues) are taking in abandoned, neglected and unwanted kittens every day. There is an urgent kitten crisis - Molly's story. So far this year, The Mayhew has rescued dozens of abandoned kittens and the number is growing every day.

Cats can get pregnant from 4 months of age, when they are kittens themselves. Neutering male and female cats by 4 months old is vital to prevent unwanted litters of kittens and the chronic overpopulation of cats. Neutering also improves your pets’ health by reducing or eliminating risks of certain cancers and other diseases. Your pet is also less likely to develop unwanted behaviours such as roaming and fighting with other cats.

The Mayhew has launched It's Raining Cats and Kittens Campaign. It's better to adopt a cat instead of breeding more kittens as there is a homeless animals crisis. It's vital for cats to be neutered and microchipped.

Remember under the C4 free neutering scheme you can get free neutering for cats if you are on a low income or are a student.

If you feed a stray cat, you can help it by getting it neutered for free (and hopefully aim to get it homed as well). If you don't get a cat neutered, it just leads to more homeless animals. The C4 free neutering scheme also includes free neutering of stray cats being fed, so you don't need to be on a low income to qualify.

Local Stokey cats needing homes

Stokey Cats and Dogs are a local volunteer group who help pets and stray cats in the community and are also a useful source of advice and help. They help stray cats and get them neutered, microchipped and rehomed. Stokey have lovely cats needing homes. If you can't offer a permanent home to a rescue cat, please consider becoming a fosterer which means looking after a cat on a temporary basis until a permanent home is found.
