Lordship Rec Model Traffic Area
Hello, I'm a local journalist and I'm researching a story about the model traffic area in Lordship Recreation Ground.
I would love to speak to anyone who spent time there as a child, in particular when the garage was open and you could still rent toy cars, or was involved in its reopening in 2010.

Have you looked at the threads on HoL as a possible source of contributors? (The HoL search isn't as good as Google's: try the following string on Google - model traffic site:http://www.harringayonline.com). Rather than commenting on each thread, you could invite any who look interesting to connect via private messaging, perhaps referring them to this thread by way of explanation).

I can give you some email addresses for the staff if you want. They'd certainly have information on the traffic area. But, if what you're after is first-hand memories of the area, they may be able to help you access people who have those, but that's not their specialism.

I remember it in the 60s, not for the cars but the bicycles. You could hire one or use your own for a reduced price. Traffic lights, Zebra crossings, road junctions, it was all there, a great way to learn the 'rules of the road'.

Exactly, Madeline. It was a favourite hang-out of mine back in the late 40s and early 50s. I hired a bicycle and learned the rules of the road like you.

Hi, Back in the 50s we did some of our training for the cycling proficiency certificate on the model traffic area. My younger brother followed on into the early 60s. We used our own bikes and went there on a Saturday for an hour with a local trainer. His wife used to be the pedestrian we were not supposed to run over...
It was also used for night training in winter - lots of fun.
We lived on the Ladder until 1964.
