This is crazy! It's been going on for 5 days now. The amount of drinking water lost and the inconvenience caused is just incredible. So frustrating that they can't get this fixed. Can we escalate this? Must be 100s of households that are affected by this

After spending 45 mins on the phone to Thames Water I can confirm the problem is a power cable next to the water main outside Hornsey station. They are waiting for UK Power to visit to switch the power off while they repair the leak. (apparently high power cables and water are not a good mix... Who knew?).

I do not really like the UK claim culture but I feel the only way to hurt big business now is via there wallets (especially if they are a monopoly like the water companies). There is a form to fill in online to receive a one off payment of £30. The question will be is "Essential work" a water leak or is "Essential work" planned maintenance?

Here is the clause:

If the water pressure in our pipework serving your property (which usually ends at the boundary stop tap or edge of the street) falls below 70 per cent of our normal minimum level of service, you can claim £30 from us.

To do this, you must have experienced loss of pressure twice in a 28-day period and the loss of pressure must have lasted more than one hour on each occasion.

You can only receive one payment under this guarantee in any financial year (1 April to 31 March). This guarantee does not apply if the low pressure is caused by essential work we have to do to our water pipe network or if there is a drought.

And here is the link:

Here's the official blah from Haringey's website:

Thames Water are undertaking repairs to a burst water main in High Street N8, outside Gatekeepers Lodge near the junction of Tottenham Lane. These works involve the use of temporary lane closure and are currently estimated to end on 22 December 2017.

I just had a chat with a Thames Water engineer who was supposed to come around to our property and investigate the low water pressure. He stopped at the Turnpike Lane burst water pipe and confirmed that the low pressure in our area is due to that incident at Turnpike Lane.

The problem they are facing is that they have to dig near high voltage power cables and they need UK Power Network engineers to come onsite and turn the power off so they can continue with the repair.

If all goes well the water pressure should be back to normal once the pipe is fixed which they hope will be by tonight. Fingers crossed
