Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is being coordinated locally by officers at Tottenham Police Station again this year.  See information below from them about how to donate a gift to a child in Haringey.

Every year the Metropolitan Police runs a campaign to give children who, for whatever reason, have had a tough year or who may not otherwise get one, a Christmas present. The 2019 appeal launched on 12 November and we are calling on generous Haringey residents to help a child in the borough get a special present this year.

There are a whopping 350+ local children on Haringey Police's list and we really hope that the residents of Haringey will be as generous as they have been in previous years so that each and every one of those children gets a present. Referrals come from the safeguarding staff at Haringey's schools and children can be referred for any number of reasons including the loss of a parent or other bereavement, illness, parental divorce or being taken into care.

This scheme is being co-ordinated by our dream team of PC Charlotte Bell and PC Graham Bell who have both been working hard since the summer with local schools and businesses to get everything ready. So, how does it work? Donating a present is very simple.

 1. Go to  https://www.met.police.uk/police-forces/metropolitan-police/areas/campaigns/2019/met-christmas-appeal and ask to donate a present. Please put in the Tottenham Police Station post code (N17 9JA) as your drop off location to be sure of getting a child from Haringey.

2. You will be allocated a child (told only age and gender and given a reference number), you then provide a present and deliver it (unwrapped for obvious security reasons) to the borough's main police station in Tottenham/the other drop off point mentioned below marked with that reference number and the police will wrap and deliver to the schools, hospitals and care homes at the beginning of December.
3. Tottenham Police Station address is: 398 High Road, N17 9JA. Deadline is 12th December but the earlier you can deliver the better as presents will need to be wrapped and delivered mid December

4. You can also order a gift on Amazon if you are not able to deliver a present in person to Tottenham Police Station. You will need to make sure that it is obvious to the front counter staff what it is – put Met Xmas Tree Project and the child’s reference number as the recipient.

 5. In Haringey PC Bell has negotiated to provide another drop off point as she knows that not everyone who wants to help feels they can get over to Tottenham. We are delighted that the operators of The Mall in Wood Green have agreed to accept presents – again unwrapped and with the reference number of the child attached – at their administration office on the first floor of Wood Green Shopping City, situated near the restrooms. We hope this will make it easier for Haringey residents to contribute to the appeal.

You can, of course, still take part if you do not want to be allocated a gender/age. Simply take a present in to Tottenham Police station or order via Amazon as above. If there is no reference number the present will be used for any children of the correct age and gender who have not been allocated a present.

I've done my two! And handed it into The Mall so hopefully it will find its way to PC Bell.
