Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm running a research project on people's attitudes to prenatal genetic testing, which needs 400 participants. At some point, the study must have seemed like a good idea...but, now I'm at the data collection stage, 400 is NOT a happy number!

Would you be able to help?

  • Do you know of a mailing list/forum where I could advertise for participants?
  • Or could you, or someone you know, spare ten minutes to complete the online questionnaire?*

Let me know, and I'll send you more information/the link to the survey.

Hopefully, the research will help to improve the genetic counselling offered to expectant parents.

If you could help in any way, I'd be hugely grateful!

Thank you

Hello I am happy to help filling in the format but I advise you I am not a parent or a potential expectant one.

Creating a page with the link to the survey on Facebook and post on Street Life might help.

Cheers,

Candida

Hi Candida

Thank you! I need the views of non-parents just as much as those of parents so I'll send you the link via a private message.

This is probably a daft question, but can you create a Facebook page for a research project, without having a personal page?

I'm off to have a look at Street Life...

Thanks again

Jo

You would need to create an account, but you wouldn't have to use it or update any photos of yourself. From there, you'd used Facebook's 'Business Pages' function, and choose the most suitable option.

Btw I would really love to take part in your study as this is something that interests/concerns me, but unfortunately I am just a shade older than your target group. Please let me know if you ever adjust the age bracket.

At the risk of sounding like I'm living in the dark ages, I've never used Facebook, so your post's helped me no end -- thank you!

I wish there was an opportunity to extend the research. I've been in touch with a few people who have been affected, for better or for worse, by prenatal testing, and it's frustrating not to be able to include their insight in the study. However, at the moment, I'm having to work within the NHS risk classifications, according to which 34+ is an Advanced Maternal Age (which makes me feel very old!).

If you'd be interested, I'd be very happy to send you further details/a copy of the study when it's finished.

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it

The NHS needs to get real on that front. Good luck with your research.

You could try Mumsnet.

Unfortunately I am too old to take part in your research!

Funny you should say that: your message arrived just as I was writing an email to Mumsnet!

It's a shame the cut off age had to be so young. It's meant I've had to turn down a lot of kind offers of help.

I'm 34 for at least a little while longer...again I'm not a parent and not expecting but happy to give views if you want to send me the link I'll complete it.

That would be brilliant -- thanks a million!

I'll send you a connection request now

Kind souls to help with psychology research

I take it the prenatal genetic testing is to establish whether the subject has a soul or psyché, no?

Well, that would certainly put an end to a few centuries' of debate! But the aim of my research is more modest, I'm afraid!

Post the link?
