Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For a few years now, I've been wondering if it would be viable for the eastern bank of the 'new cut' of the New River behind Wightman Road to be managed as a wildflower / biodiversity corridor.

I finally got round to asking Thames Water via their pretty responsive customer service team.

I'm sorry to report that the answer was a firm 'no'. The chap who called me explained that the grass must be cut back for the banks of the river to be regularly inspected to check for any problems.

My immediate response was to accept and understand this explanation. But I've since been wonder, is there no way round this?

Thanks,

thats great to hear. I've also been chasing Thames Water who at one point they told me it might make a good community engagement project but have yet to commit to it.

Good to know some of the barriers to making this happen.

Hope we can take stock of the wildlife there, amazing to see the bats, crane, swans ect.

Here's my two euros about this on this thread.

CW: Controversial opinion!

Also realise that the assumptions made may not be true of everyone (or anyone) on this thread but I think its quite important to get clear both what we are asking for and whether any intervention is actually necessary.
