Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Was I mistaken last week when I thought I read that all homeless were being given accommodation during lockdown?

I noticed the big fella who sleeps under the bridge was still adrift on Green Lanes today.

From talking to him in the past, I know he has refused support before but I wonder if there really is additional outreach is happening at the moment or if it is just more empty promises.

Any insights would be appreciated.

I've seen someone sleeping under a shelter on Green Lanes too...

Hi Adam. I know from one of our councillors that they keep trying to help Ben. He obviously has mental health issues and does not want to be moved. It’s difficult in this situation, all they can do is keep talking to him. The government has announced all homeless should be in shelter during the present crisis. Haringey Council have accommodated 53 rough sleepers that they were aware of. They have now been given 30 more from the GLA and are currently looking  for self contained accommodation they are all in shelters and should be moved soon (if not already). I recommend looking at the Councils website for information and how to report any new homeless.

Hi Anne,

Thank you for your reply. It's good to know efforts are being made.

Hello.

Is the man that looks a bit like Jesus living under the bridge near Mcdonalds?

I hope someone can help him, he's been on the streets for over a year.

Hi Mal. Look at my post above. His name is Ben and he refuses all help, he obviously has mental health issues. Very difficult when they don’t want help.

Adam - the commitment is to offer accommodation. 'Horse to water' etc

He is not a 'Horse' he is a human being who has mental health issues and deserves help even if giving it isn't straightforward.

Ben's situation clearly tricky to sort out if he doesn't want to be moved. And he perhaps doesn't understand social distancing, as he's approached me several times, quite close up asking for money over the past few weeks. I'm probably not the only one. I don't want anyone near my face at the moment and that is not being horrible to Ben. Plus it's hard to walk under the Bridge because of the pile of duvets and other stuff there that I guess are his belongings. The path is very narrow now and to get 2 meters out of the way of other pedestrians means going on the road which is not always an option. I just hope he can be helped in a way acceptable to him. I worry he's going to get very sick.
