Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Pete Murray quoted a reasonable price for the job, but kept his costings and discussions vague and misleading. He then tried to charge an additional £500 on top of the correct amount. He sent three invoices, all of them with errors. I agreed to settle at a lower sum to end the matter, but continued to be harassed with multiple emails, phone calls and texts on a daily basis. I found his behaviour intimidating. In my opinion he's a chancer, and to be avoided.

We used him after reading good reviews on HoL. We had similar experience to yours. He was friendly and quoted reasonable price. But the bill ended up charging us quite a bit more even though he didn’t do 1/3 of the jobs original quoted for and charged for a trip to check a possible leak from his installation (the leak stopped by itself so he didn’t have to do anything). We probably won’t use him again.

Shocked to hear that - we've used Pete loads of times, via recommendations on here, and have always found him to be straightforward and someone who sticks to the quoted price. Sorry to hear your experience using him has been the opposite. 

I'd second that MD. I've found Pete friendly reliable and reasonable. He's always been willing to go the extra mile and I've never had a billing issue with him. 

It seems that plumbers are rather like marmite. We've had the same issue with another plumber recommended on here. Some love him; some hate him.

I'd agree with that - used Pete couple of times, billing not been a problem other than my usual surprise at costs these days to get plumbing/electricals done. It has only been for small work though. But for larger / costlier work I would perhaps look elsewhere. 

wow! that's not been our experience with Pete at all.

in fact, the last time we used him, we'd been advised by someone else that "a major job" was required, so obtained a replacement part (free of charge under guarantee) and as they weren't available, we brought in Pete. within 10 minutes he told us that the replacement part was not required, and neither was the "major job". a couple of turns of an allen key was all that was needed, and ONLY the minimum fee (hourly rate, not call out) was charged.

thank you and well done rosyrose - it takes quite some pluck to crit a plumber here - i want to know good AND bad cos i have had some mixed dealings here too.
