Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Please help with planning appeal against ugly comms equipement

Please help us by writing to the planning inspector opposing the amount, poor design and poor siting of the various pieces of equipment as per this application near Downhills Park.

You will note various items of correspondence in the file supporting the need for this type of equipment in order to improve communications and connectivity. It cites technical and national policy which doesn't really have much consideration for how our 'living' streets and neighbourhoods look and feel.

This is NOT an anti-5G issue. Nor is it against the equipment itself. It is the way in which no real attempt has been made to come up with equipment design and siting that does not overwhelm this location - an oasis of greenery located between two of our major green spaces in the 'deprived' east of the borough.

The planning decision being appealed states “….by reason of its siting, appearance, size, scale, prominent location, and proliferation of ancillary cabinets would be visually intrusive, would result in an incongruous and obtrusive form of development, adding to street clutter in the area, appearing out of keeping with the character of the surrounding street scene and detrimental to local visual amenity.”

You only have to look around at the roof tops of so many (a lot of social housing) buildings in our neighbourhoods to find these ugly antennae and see that no attempt whatsoever is made to disguise them. If allowed the private communications companies, which make quite a substantial profit from their activities and are gaining in importance in our lives, will continue to impose this ugliness on our neighbourhoods. But they also just want to plonk pole antennae down in the middle of residential streets, even when it means reducing green space which has tremendous ‘amenity value’ - see this recent refused application. Where will it stop?

So please write to the Inspector, even if it is just a short sentence or two, saying the proposed equipment is ugly and badly sited. All we ask is for the comms company to make an effort and work with the council to come up with a better solution. This is NOT an anti-5G problem. We all want better connectivity but not at the expense of our well being.

Follow guidelines as per the letter below that I received from Haringey Planning….

Thanks in advance.
