Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi. We’ll be applying for a reception place next year, to start in September 2020. We plan to move to the ladder but are unlikely to have it done by mid-January, so will be using current address. We live a few miles further north.

So we need to be sensible in our choices. Maybe two schools with usually small catchment areas (just in case we get lucky) and the rest schools where we have a good chance of getting in from a few miles away.

I’ve spoken to the Haringey education team who tell me that there were quite a few schools this year where everyone got in, regardless of where they applied from. They include various religious schools (not our preference), and others including Noel Park and Lordship Lane.

Any suggestions for schools to visit or consider? Our daughter is confident, chatty and happy. She likes learning and is pretty resilient.

The only other thing is that we’ll only be in the uk for three years (possibly two). So our focus is on the early years.

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks!

Thanks. These will definitely go on my ‘hopeful’ list! I don’t think I’ve much chance of a place from our current address unfortunately.

I'd check with the admissions teams first to whether it's actually advisable, but you may be able to put either of the Ladder schools down as your first choice, then put Noel Park/Lordship (both good schools by all accounts) as your second with the likelihood you'll get a place at one of those. Then you could always get on the waiting list for North or South Harringay, although your daughter might be settled by then. All the primary schools in this area are decent.

Both of my kids have been to South Harringay, and have had a great experience. I am sure Chestnuts and North Harringay are equally good.

If you are not moved in by the relevant application cut off date don't forget you can always move mid year and wait list your child if they don't get into their school of first choice. Its a bit of messing around but I would have thought that it may be worth moving your child mid year, especially as there it not much in the primary schools around here from an academic perspective but the convenience factor may be something to consider.

Do Try St Peter in Chains Infants. While it’s a Catholic run School it’s 50:50 non-  Catholic. It’s the cutest oasis away from the other school factories. It’s close to the ladders and crouch end broadway. It’s in a place called Elm Grove, hidden away from the traffic of the main roads.

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s in the list!

You could try 'Woodberry Down Community Primary School', although it's in Hackney Borough but lot of parents sent their kids to this school. We are Gardens residents and my kids are studying in this school.  https://woodberrydown.hackney.sch.uk

It's a massive school, 3 form entry and it is under New Wave Federation (3 schools under New Wave Teaching school sponsored by Apple Teaching Programme)

Depending where you end up moving to, I'll put a good word in for Stroud Green School. It's a non-religious school 20 min walk for me from Warham Rd and my family love it, but I appreciate it is a long walk if you're further up the Ladder than we are!
