Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi guys,
I know this is a subject raised again and again so apologies in advance. I am wondering why there is so much rubbish on the streets of Harringay. I'm not talking about a crisp packet here and there but the big purple/black/green sacks which seem to cluster areas up and down green lanes and around turnpike lane station. Is this legal? Do we know if it is the shops who are dumping this rubbish? Is it picked up on a daily basis because shops do not have the big wheelie bins?

The reason I ask is because it all just attracts more rubbish from passers by and flies/pests - I saw a massive rat crossing the road near The Mall a few weeks ago, which was just delightful(!)
In a bid to possibly change things (long shot I know) I feel I need to know what the situation is, however the council hasn't responded to my requests for answers.
A solution would be to have big wheelie bins at certain point (Westminster businesses sometimes have these outside thee premises for example)in a bid to deer the pests if nothing else.

Another issue is the trees - or the fact that around their base weeds etc are overgrown and are also now rubbish dumps in their own right. I have reported several areas on the council website where the trees need to be trimmed Etc to again deter rubbish dumpers, but again, nothing.

On another note, are the side streets (the ladder roads and ones off green lanes) ever swept out of interest?

Sorry for the barrage of questions, but the council website only suggests reporting issues, and that veolia has responsibility for certain issues, but I would like to know how these things really work in practice, in order to see what/how/if any changes can be made.
Thanks

Do you mean Harringay or Haringey?

Well I have only noticed on the harringay/wood green area, (green lanes, west green lane etc)?but assume is prevalent thought the borough? I might be wrong...

Seven Sisters Road, South Tottenham and West Green Road area and all inbetween is becoming a right tip, rubbish outside shops and houses, refrigerators and sofas left in the street for weeks.

I caught a fly tipper dumping mattresses in Brunswick Park and was threatened when I walked passed his van (Wish I'd got the reg plate in hindsite but was more worried about my health).

I honestly think the council/Veolia have given up on the area completely.

We will soon be overrun by rats, I am sure its only the dog sh1t that's keeping them away....

I bet this doesn't happen in Highgate

A grand total of 4 mattresses have been flytipped on Chesterfield Gardens over the last few days - together with what appears to be an entire deconstructed bed

You could not be further from the truth.

In Highgatevavgiant rat was found behind a dishwasher, did you not see the newspaper article.

In Highgate this week in Hornsey Lane Gardens a couple of us stopped to see the latest dumping,a couple of mattresses again.
Some of this I think is from clearance vans who spdo not want to pay to dump at recycling centre, they used to dump ourptsude our house in Miltons, its been quieter past couple of weeks, but now they are back from holiday.

And we also have rats in Highgate woods during the day and loads of them,

So am afraid you have lost your bet

I am appalled at the constant belittling of the street artwork of our many creatives.

Pre-eminent of course is the revered Bagsy.  But didn't you visit the Art in the Open Festival in April?  It showcased the work of perhaps less popular, but equally talented local painters, sculptors, installation and conceptual artists.  Woodsy and Bouncy, for example.

So please let's stop referring to rubbish. There is no rubbish on the streets of our fair borough. The Dear Leader told us so. "Our streets are now among the cleanest in London".  So if it isn't art, it's an optical illusion; a trick of the light. Or perhaps due to freak weather conditions - a mirage when we see a displaced image of distant rubbish in Kensington and Chelsea.

Alan you are so cynical! if you read the Haringey People you would know that Haringey Council is forever winning awards for just about everything! I think the awarding body is the Municipal Award Industry of Kiss My Arse....
