Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm doing up my house on the ladder, where the last owner threw away the original Victorian fireplaces some years ago.

I'm refurbishing the house and I want to replace the fireplaces with like-for-like, reclaimed ones rather than copies. Inconveniently, I want a similar or matching pair for my through living room/dining room.

But where can I get them? I've been looking on eBay but few pairs come up. I've visited Stone Age Architectural in Enfield but again, they were a bit lacking in pairs and we were looking at around 2.5K for the pair.

Does anyone else have any reasonably local recommendations where we might be able to get a similar or matching pair of fireplaces? The date of our house, by the way, is around 1870ish, I think.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi

There's an architectural salvage place down on Essex Road (about half way down, closer to the Islington Green end) that is a bit pricey, but has a large yard out the back that might have more 'rustic' models.

Good luck - totally agree that you would want to try to keep contemporary fireplaces going.

There used to be a good little shop next to Stanford Hill station, where they refurbished old fireplaces.

He has moved to hackney; Great Fireplace Revival Co, 86, Lower Clapton Road. 020 8533 5311.

I'm going to have a look today!

There's a place in Willesden that has loads of doors and fireplaces. Willesden Green Architectural Salvage.  Got a matched pair of very big doors and a lovely bedroom fireplace there.

Have you tried http://www.originalfeatures.co.uk/ in Crouch End opposite the petrol station?

Thanks everyone. These suggestions were a great help. We went to Willesden in the end as we'd already exhausted The Architectural Forum. And we found two almost matching fireplaces there that when cleaned up, should be great for our house (well, hopefully, if they do actually turn up!). It was much more reasonable that any of the other places we tried price-wise.

Thank you all. I'll update if and when we actually get our hands on them.
