Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

With the planting of approximately 76 new trees in Harringay ward this past planting season, can everyone who has a new tree near their home (or indeed planted in the last three years) help them survive the summer with a good water once a week?

I've noticed that many of the Alnus Incana (Golden Alders) are suffering from shock, with the ends of the branches dying back. These trees need our help as rainwater is insufficient.

(I've been watering many of the 11 new trees on Falkland Road, but would appreciate help either end of the road.)

Many thanks

Nick. Glad you made this point again. I regularly water two or three trees near me but this has reminded me to get out tonight to do them.

I do not know where to find the list of new trees, but maybe we should find this and between us (you, me and any other tree hugger on the ladder) knock on a few doors of folks near the trees to ask if they would 'adopt' the tree so as to make sure it is looked after- I am sure several tree neighbours are not on HoL. I am happy to knock on doors of Pemberton and neighbouring streets, and other Friends of the Harringay Passage members hopefully will be happy to do the same on their street...?

As a matter of policy, would it be worth the council tree department identifying possible adaptors when a new tree goes in, it does rather seem like a fire/plant and forget exercise. Not sure who to pass this comment on to.

First things first, can we get the locations of the new trees?

Spreadsheet here, courtesy of Hugh - and Haringey's Arboricultural and Allotments Manager, indeed.

Well done, thanks.

Nick. I have taken the liberty of posting in the original thread you and Gordon linked to see if I can get a few folks mobilised to 'adopt' the new trees and identify any other trees that may need looking after.

If anyone is interested in helping informally 'adopting' a new or vulnerable tree, or willing to knock on a few doors on their street of neighbours who live near such new or vulnerable trees to see if they would 'adopt' the tree near them then please let me know. I am happy to coordinate this effort.

Justin, I badgered the council for a year preceding the planting season for more trees for Falkland Road (and it worked) so feel a sense of responsibility in helping them along. 11 trees takes a while to water and I am going to door knock some neighbours to ask them to adopt some of the trees either end of the road.

I think it's a good idea to use the list on the link I provided above (which Hugh posted) and approach residents living nearby to adopt the new trees. I'll post a reply on the other thread.

OK, I'll take on the two on Umfreville Rd - I've given them a bucket of water already.
