Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Very recently the wise ole heads of Haringay council decided that my road The Roundway (west arm) was suddenly that much closer to White hart lane football stadium. Even though the road nor the stadium had moved closer together in over 100 years suddenly it was deemed to be part of an event day area so bosh suddenly it was resident only parking. Never has The Roundway experienced high levels of traffic on match days but the council now deemed it necessary to make The Roundway residents only parking.

Here though lies the genius in the scheme. They have only made 1 side of the road a CPZ (controlled parking zone). So now all non residents park on my side. Its not that its making parking that much more difficult for me, it is making it impossible. I asked the council if i could apply for a resident permit but as my house is on the other side i did not qualify. It angers me so much that we have such high level of shambolic decision making and planning. How can they make one side of a road a CPZ and not expect that to force non residents onto the other side (my side) to park. I wouldn't even mind if it meant i had to  park around the corner. Little annoying but hey thats life. But all side roads near me are CPZ too. The only place that isn't is my road. well i say my road, my side of my road anyway.

The councils reply to me was to get a petition together to get my side of the road made a CPZ too. What rubbish. Im expected to knock on doors and ask people to pay to park outside their houses because the council are too stupid!

Do we have any residents on the Roundway on this forum? like to know your opinions on this.

How do we live in this idiocy in 2014 ??

First let me assure you Ryan that it's not about Greed.  And it's nothing to do with needing to make ever increasing Profits from the Parking Account, to backfill budget cuts.  It cannot be because setting out to make a surplus on the Parking Account would be illegal. As everybody knows and as Government ministers often say.  In fact they regularly assure us that the motorist is not - emphatically not - being treated as a cash cow.

Can I also assure you that there are some real and increasing parking pressures in areas of north Tottenham but the new scheme will not deal with the fussy little details of these pressures. Because its far easier to have a one-size fits all approach.

Oh and I forgot. The whole thing is nothing to do with the old stadium. It's for the wonderful enlarged shining Brand New Stadium. Which will bring even more cars here to Spursville carpark  Tottenham where we live.

Surely you must have seen the new stadium?  There's a picture of it in the Kober Strickland "Plan For Tottenham". A magnificent and beautiful shot. Full of gold and silver lights against a deep velvety-blue night sky. It's the basket into which the Council is placing most of its regeneration eggs.

Surely you've seen the billboards at the end of White Hart Lane?  They are opposite the council housing and shops and businesses and Coombes Croft Library that, with great sadness, Claire Kober and her chums are being forced to tear down in order to create an absolutely essential walkway for Spurs supporters. You haven't seen the billboards?  Extolling the wonders of a 365 days a year 24 hours a day leisure destination. Just like the one Claire Kober enjoys in her own street in Muswell Hill.

Well, okay, the stadium hasn't quite been built yet.  But all the "infrastructure" needs to be in place for when it is built. Or if it is built. And you and your street and my street - well we are infrastructure

So Ryan, Rejoice! Your local councillors are far-sighted people. As are the Council leaders. Aren't you proud to be part of this regeneration?  What's a CPZ or two; or a teensy bit of parking displacement in the scheme of these grand plans?

Anyway Ryan, every resident in the area was consulted about all aspects of these plans. We were asked if we wanted Tottenham improved?  And we all  said "Yes".  And now here it is: the improvement.

Incidentally the timing of the new CPZs has been planned to coincide almost exactly with the borough elections so residents can show councillors their delight. The names and contact details of your Labour Councillors are shown here.
