Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There seems to be a spate of people ringing my doorbell then not being there when I go to the door at present. It's doing my head in. I can only assume it's someone checking if I'm home to try and break in.. but I'm ALWAYS home so it's driving me nuts. Is anyone else experiencing this at present or am I just lucky?

Kids ?

Sounds like classic Knock Down Ginger

Spot on, Hugh.  That was our game back in the 40s and 50s.  Not sure I'd dare to do it now though.

If it was kids they'd do it repeatedly on the same evening. Not once or twice and testing my neighbours bell as well when both houses are dark.

Is it a wireless doorbell? Mine was on the same frequency as a neighbour so when someone rang their doorbell mine went off too!

It is. But there's never been an issue before. Unless someone has changed theirs recently? But thank you for the useful suggestion. I'll look into that.

We have this issue too, someone accross the road from us has the same doorbell.
Sometimes they seem to get mixed up, so when say a delivery person presses their bell, ours sounds. Very annoying.

I wonder where the phrase Knock Down Ginger came from..

Mr Google says:

The name knock down ginger or knocky door ginger, used in Britain, comes from a British poem:

Ginger, Ginger broke a winder
Hit the winda – crack!
The baker came out to give 'im a clout
And landed on his back.

It don't sound very safe round your way.  Think ill stay on the wonderful crimeless broad water farm.  :-)

My wireless doorbell is a bit erratic.  It can not ring at all (especially if there's been heavy rain - then I need to hit it to get it going again), but also it has been known to ring spontaneously.  Frankly, I hate the thing but installing a wired doorbell would be unfeasibly expensive, involving a load of unsightly wiring.

Is it happening at a certain time of day or just randomly?
