Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear friends,

I just signed the petition "Save Haringey's Parks and Green Spaces!" and wanted to ask if you could add your name too.

This campaign means a lot to me and the more support we can get behind it, the better chance we have of succeeding. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Well Sharon, Haringey Council are very interested in our parks, have a look at their brochure

I didn’t count, but the impression given by the pictures in that publication is that the parks are as much an entertainment venue as they are green space. I wonder what audience it was written to.

Interesting Link

Believe it only covers parks that Events can be held in

Interesting to see the split of parks available for events in the west of the borough compared to the east.

I wonder if that's because they're City of London/privately owned, they're not suitable or some other reason?

I have mixed feelings about this. The income from Finsbury Park events (whether you approve of them or not) was being used to subsidise the maintenance of the other parks. Since the court case brought by the Friends of Finsbury Park that’s not possible anymore. So worst of both worlds- events continue in FP but the other parks can’t benefit from the income

Odd that they advertise the baseball/softball ground on the corner of Endymion as an events space - I didn't think that was a thing at all.

Not that I want to give them ideas, but is there any reason why Chestnuts isn't on this list?

Was originally the Cricket Ground.

Now used for Baseball & Softball

I know its history - my understanding was it was *exclusively* for baseball and softball, which is why I was surprised Haringey were advertising it as an event space.

I thought the same. As I understand it, that part of the park is leased to the baseball team/company.

Much needed as more Housing is Now boxes in the Sky

Big issue is there is No funding for Staff to keep them clean and Safe

And when bins are put near Entrance / Exit people bring in rubbish from home
