Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This is an image of the front drawer of a compartment of my freezer.

I cannot get a replacement cover, so I am looking to repair this as best I can. Does anyone have a strong glue, or plastic welder that may help bring this back together?

I have tried a glue gun we have at home but it is not hard/strong enough- possibly its more focused on craft than freezer engineering.

Anyone got any thoughts as to where to go to to glue this, or possibly a glue gun that may be strong enough?

Hi Justin, I fear you have discovered the flaw in plastic. It is possible to weld, but you will need the same plastic to use as the weld and it may not actually be strong enough. The best solution will be to create a replacement cover (out of wood?) and attach to the remains of what you have. Alternatively just leave the cover off!

I'd look at Serious Glue or Araldite but realistically it's likely both would struggle.

Another vote for araldite. Probably not crucial, but there is Araldite Crystal which is clear, not the opalescent presentation of regular araldite. Ensure all surfaces clean (especially of glue gun glue), dry and at room temperature etc...

Have you looked online for a replacement at a 'spare parts' or recycling website? https://www.espares.co.uk/browse/at1084/fridges-and-freezers

Not this one specifically. Thanks. I tried calling the manufacturer. From memory it is something produced exclusively for Curry’s. No joy as it it soo old. They have stopped manufacturing them. Thanks for the link though.

Yes. I have thought about not using a front but not sure that is helpful in as much as we will have stuff spilling out every time we open the door.

Will check out the glue options mentioned below  anything is worth a go really at this point. I did think about getting something to glue front and back. May still do that if I can find some suitable lateral. There is a slight curve on the door so it needs to have a flexibility to it.

Thanks for your input
