The housing crisis: there is something you can do to help!

The Shelter charity shop in Crouch End really needs more volunteers.  Even just three hours per week would help them a lot, particularly at weekends, when the shop can get very full.

If the paid staff have to spend all their time in the shop itself, they can't sort through donations, look up book values, remove stock that isn't selling etc etc, to generate more profit.  So they need volunteers for these tasks and in the shop.

Shelter provides a telephone helpline to advise homeless people, also online advice, as the helpline is ALWAYS far too busy so the homeless can't get through.  They also give essential legal support to tenants being wrongly evicted.  And they campaign.  They are snowed under with work at the moment, as you can imagine.

The shop is just past the clock tower, on Tottenham Lane.  It's recently been re-fitted and re-decorated so has a fresh, light feeling inside.  There's a manager and a deputy manager, one of whom is always there, and a very varied and interesting (but small!) group of volunteers.  020 8340 7061.  Please do consider giving it a go.
