Wood chippings needed for the Big Green Bookshop's reading garden project

Does anyone know where I can source some wood chippings from locally, ideally for free or very little money? I'm currently helping the Big Green Bookshop with their garden project at the side of the shop and, as it's intended to be a children's reading garden, thought wood chips could be a good surface material to use. Someone told me a while ago that it can be useful to contact tree surgeons/ arborists directly as they often have regular amounts of chippings requiring disposal - what do we think? Any recommendations?

We have them delivered to our allotment from the council. I'm not sure whether your project would be eligible but it may be worth ringing Haringey Allotments or Parks Dept.

I'm looking at their site now, Maggie, and I don't think we would be eligible, but good thinking, thank you!

Have you tried asking some tree surgeons? The big ones usually have chipping machines with them which they chuck the trees into as they chop them down. I have a vague recollection that these guys in Muswell Hill may offer their chippings to the public. Worth asking. If not, they may know a good source.

Am messaging them now, thanks, Bushy! Will have a quick google and try some others if no joy =)

Cheap could well be Wolves Lane Nursery (the Council one)

I forgot about them, Stephen, that's a point... Having said that, I've spoken to the guys in Muswell Hill that Bushy recommended and they seem to be about to come through for us so I may not have to..!
