Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There's a nice potted history of Chestnuts Park on the Friends Of Chestnuts website.

I would metal detect that and bring up some real, hands-on history, if the council wasnt tossers.

The pavilion is about to be demolished...this could be your chance whilst there is a big hole in the ground!

Well the council would try and do me for criminal damage.....can you believe that?
That was their threat in the past.
So. no permission = no detecting :/

Not mentioned on the site is the large flat WW2 red bricked air raid shelter to the left of the House. I think it was demolished at the same time as the House itself. I can recall going into the house for dental check-ups as a child. There was also a post-natal clinic located there.

The park was also used in WW2 as a base for anti-aircraft barrage balloons and it was one of these balloons that broke loose and loped off the top of St Ann's church steeple. The post-war replacement of the steeple can still be made out by the different colour of the stone.
