I can see why people took these photographs. I have just taken some shots of the rolling farmland near Oakwood tube station which Enfield Council want to build thousands of homes on. You just feel the need to record it before it goes.

Indeed, Elaine. That's exactly what they were doing. Many societies were set up to capture what people realised was a fast-disappearing world. Read about another group set up by Crouch End local Edgar Scammell. See this article, about half way down.
