Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Beating Bounds, 1893 (2) - Hermitage Estate, Harringay

Beating the bounds is an ancient tradition that goes back into the mists of time. It involves residents walking an area's boundaries, usually those of the parish to share the knowledge of where they lay and to lay claim to their area. For more on the tradition, see the companion picture to this one, shot ouside The Beaconsfield.

I'm not sure exactly where this was taken on the Hermitage Estate, but I'm wondering if that house in the background in The Hermitage. In any event , it's somewhere by Hermitage Road

Their visit would have been shortly after Giovanni Sangiorgi (Mr Kettners) moved out of the Hermitage and the estate was sold for development.

Next stop for the walkers was The Beaconsfield.
