I think it had previously been a tram depot.. converted to a cinema after the trams were electrified..

Grief, yes. Very heavily.

 

But just checked Cinema Treasures and they say this:

The original Pyke's Cinematograph Theatre/later main entrance, became un-used and was demolished in 1999. It is unknown why, because nothing was built on this plot of land until around 2006, when a Netto supermarket was built.

This was still a cinema in my days (46-64) but we were more likely to sail past and use the Astoria or even stay on the bus to Holloway!

When I worked for Finsbury Park Action Group in the '80's it was empty and I and a colleague had a look around the inside as there was a hope by local residents that it could be brought back into use.
