Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The theatre was operating from 1910 to 1965.

On the left of the photo is Prah Road: on the right is St Thomas's Road.

When the theatre was built in the early 1900s, it replaced a Royal Mail sorting office. To make way for the larger footprint of the theatre, numbers 2 -15 St Thomas's Road were demolished. On Prah Road four detached villas, numbered 2 to 4 were also demolished.

When the theatre itself was demolished in 1965, to make way for new housing, numbers 18 to 24 St Thomas's Road were demolished along with 10 Prah Road.

The site is now Vaudeville Court.  Would love to know more about what was put on in there.  My parents were supposed to have met there in the 1930s......

It was my Nan’s favourite place in the world! She used to take my mum there when she was a kid and they must have seen every act around. I know it was like a day out, people would take lunches, etc, in with them. It was so cheap the masses could be entertained! Also as an aside, the Cliff Richard film ‘The Young Ones’ has a scene set there during its demolition.
