The year before I left London. This is how I remember it all. Bartons! Even earlier... Pneumatic tubes and overhead catenaries! Gents in morning suits. A lift with an attendant - "gentlemens tailoring... rainwear... ladies underwear (wink to child passenger) ... haberdashery..."

The Empire: Petula Ckark... Arthur Askey... Mr Pastry... The Amazing Ali Bongo...

The Odeon: Carry Ons... A Hill in Korea... Write her name with Pride... The Ship That Cried...

The bloke on the green who escaped from ropes and chains inside a huge sack.

Some shopping developments may just have taken a lot more than we ever remember....

Thanks again Hugh.

Does anybody know the actual years that trains stopped running on the Palace Gates line and when the bridge across the high road was removed along with the bridges across Station Road and Park Avenue ?

It's all here Tony - 1963 for passengers and 1964 for freight.

Thanks Hugh, I seem to vaguely remember that when the bridge was removed traffic being diverted via Gladstone Ave & Lymington Ave but was wondering what year it was. I'm guessing it was some time between 1970 & 1973 just before work begun on the new shopping city.

Having seen more information it seems like it was around 1968 or 1969 when the bridge was removed.
