If you look at the point where Middle Lanes joins the High Street you can see a line of cobbles. I wonder if the road is just covered in a layer of horse manure and dirt.

Interesting to see the Alexandra Bazaar, (like my thought of a Harringay Bazaar in the old Disney's store.)

I'm not sure what else it could be. I know that many roads were made up of wooden blocks. It could be those under the muck.
