Hornsey Gas Works, 1910

Nestled between the Railway line and Hornsey Park Road, today the gas works are best known for their gas holders (now demolished for the development of the New River Village).

The works were closed in 1957 and number 2 gasholder, (the one shown in the shot) was dismantled in the 1970s. The remaining two gasholders were decommissioned in 2005 and recently demolished. (See conversations tagged hornsey gasholder for chat on HoL about their demolition.)

Given how little is left of whjat is in shot remains to orient its location, I have added a couple fo maps showing where it was taken. The first map below is from the 1895 Ordnance Survey map and shows the rough position from which the photo was taken along with the direction of the shot. The second image is an overlay of the old map on a Google Satellite image.
