Hi Hugh - I'd like to post these HTH photos, ideally without your watermark, on the HTH Facebook Group - any suggestions gratefully received.

Mixed memories - I sat with the Hornsey Journal team many times taking the verbatim note that editor Bertie White insisted on at council meetings in the early 60s. My shorthand was never quite up to it - fortunately and almost unbelievably it mattered little - Bertie White took an entire verbatim note of his own throughout in beautiful perfect Pitman shorthand using green Stephens ink using his set of three or four fountain pens. One of us sat with him when not on our note-taking shift and re-filled his pens.

And every jot and tittle of the verbiage spilled by councillors and aldermen appeared almost exactly in the following week's Journal. Only Alderman Muldoon's was edited - at his own request since he knew he talked drivel and wanted Bertie to "tidy me up a bit old man".

When Bertie retired (date unknown to me but after I moved on in 1964) it must have been a relief to all concerned when new editor Mike Pearce instituted a more modern regime of selective reporting of what might actually interest people.
