Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I love this changing-of-the-age shot. I wonder if that carriage in the middle of the picture has just been taking its owners for a turn round the park before returning home to one of the grand old house on Woodberry Down, perhaps.

I wonder where the Park Cafe was?

It IS an amazing photo,

Does that read 'Park cafe' or 'Park gate'?

Duh! Thank you. That makes a lot more sense!

Wheels on the cobbles made for a bumpy ride.

Sensational picture. Interesting that in the world of commerce the horse hung on a long time - in the 40s and into the 50s our milk arrived on a horse drawn float (Ned he was); the bread man ditto and the fruit and veg man. The fish man had a motor van. Around 1950 or so Ned was retired and the electric float appeared. Funny old world - now we are going back to electric.

Our milkman's horse in Seymour was a grey mare called Mary.  And yes, this was into the 50s, so the horse did hang on a long time.

I 'think' we had Express Dairy but it may have been United - maybe I am wrong about Ned?

I am almost 100 per cent sure we had United Dairies.  And wasn't there a United Dairies shop just around the corner in Green Lanes between Seymour and Hewitt?  They were the first I remember to sell yogurt, to my mother's delight, back in the early 1950s.
